Trail Highlights
This historical Military Road Trail starts along Holson Valley road and connects with the Ouachita National Recreation Trail on the south side of Winding Stair Mountain.  These two trails along with the Boardstand Trail, can be combined to form a looped route of about 23 miles.  The trails travel through the western end of the Holson Valley and the Indian Nations National Scenic and Wildlife Area. 

Directions 
You can access Boardstand & Military Road Trail from the Talimena State Park.  The Ouachita Trail will take you to the loop.

Camping at Talimena State Park.

Local Rider Input
Start ride at the Talihina State Park.  Access the Ouachita Trail.  I mile up and your will take the Old Military Road Trail up and over the Mountain.  It will be steep and rough through this section, but the descent down Old Military Road will be your reward.  Watch for the Boardstand Trail which will take you back up to the Ouachita Trail.  It is 8 miles back to the Talimena State Park.
